SUBARU IMPREZA PRODUCTION TO MOVE TO U.S. BEGINNING 2016
CHERRY HILL, N.J. – Subaru of America, Inc. has announced that its popular Impreza model will be produced at the Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. plant (SIA) in Lafayette, Ind. starting in 2016.
The addition of the new model will create approximately 900 new jobs with an investment of approximately $400 million. Subaru currently produces the Subaru Outback, Legacy and Tribeca at SIA as well as the Toyota Camry.
The Subaru Impreza compact sedan and 5-door is currently built only at Subaru’s Yajima and Main plants in Japan. Powered by Subaru’s 4-cyliner, horizontally-opposed BOXER engine and equipped with symmetrical all-wheel drive, the Impreza is popular for its performance and safety features as well as its excellent fuel economy as the most fuel-efficient AWD vehicle in America.
Four years of record sales and a doubling of market share in North America led Fuji Heavy Industries to expand the plant’s production capacity by about 100,000 vehicles annually.
